Verge-ing on the Ridiculous

What the fuck is happening at the top of Station Road? Some petty bureaucrat at the council obviously thinks that if the grass grows higher than a millimetere it has to be cut.

As happened last year, a whole micro-habitat is being systematically destroyed in the name of 'tidiness' or 'crime prevention'. There's a brilliant, beautiful and rare plant, the Guelder Rose, which will no doubt be chopped down in the next day or two. Whole plant and animal communities are unable to thrive because of a twisted and old-fashioned idea of aesthetic acceptability.

We are living in an age of Climate Change and mass extinction. We must 'act local and think global' by protecting our neighbourhood wildlife, or else we have no right to complain about envisonmental destruction elsewhere in the world.

So let the verge grow at least two inches before you hack it down, leave small areas of flowers for the invertebrates and birds. Surely that's not too much to ask.

And Police and Council do your fucking jobs and leave nature alone for a bit.

I was mugged by a 6 inch high pixie on the approach to Station Road only two weeks ago.

I guess expecting the council workers to set their lawnmowers to 12 inches is a bit much to ask. Perhaps we should invest in a scythe and offer to do it ourselves to your specification Des? The sight of an irate nature lover with a 3ft blade could also act a a further deterrent to potential muggers.

Beetle - I find your insinuation that pixies are more likely to commit crime than other little folk very offensive.
