It has been a good summer for the Neighbourhood Team and the residents of Montpelier and St werburghs as the crime figures for Beat 111 are a reflection of how crime is reducing across the board. The last two months have been very good seeing the overall crime reduce significantly.
When I became your beat manager back in October 2007 I set out to reduce serious and violent crime including Domestic Burglary and Robbery by at least 50%. The last few months the figures have suggested that we are finally having some success, with our burglaries showing a reduction of 50% or more, and robbery also significantly reduced. This has been in part to hard work by the specialist teams combined with problem solving initiative run by my team.
I have been pleased with all the hard work put in by the PCSO’s on the team, who have also had some success with issues that matter to our residents, having to attend court on several parking enforcement issues.
However some parking and minor drugs issues still persist but are not forgotten and we are making some progress even if this at times seems slow. We are looking at new and diverse ways of tackling these problems and will not give up.
I am disappointed at the turn out to the monthly PACT priorities meetings, this is your chance to air and bring to light issues that affect you, and to make a difference in your community. The meetings are held every first Monday of the month at 1630hrs to 1830hrs at The Adult Learning Centre, Grosvenor Road, St Pauls, Bristol.
A recent spate of vehicle crime in Station Road, Montpelier saw a covert capture car being deployed by a specialist team, this vehicle was broken into and an offender very quickly identified and arrested. This male was charged and sentenced at court with a non custodial sentence. Further enquiries into these offences led to a warrant at an address in Montpelier, where further arrests were made for stolen property and supply of class A drugs and a court case is in progress with an expected custodial sentence awaited. I continued to monitor the level of vehicle crime in the Station Road area, and noticed that it was still continuing. The specialist team therefore deployed another covert capture car in the same road, and the same offender again broke into this vehicle. The offender was again arrested charged and sentenced within a couple of days, and this time given a custodial sentence. Maybe the offender has learnt his lesson?
