COLSTON'S TREES THREAT: POPLAR FRONT TO REUNITE 26 SEPTEMBER 2009 AT 10.30AM: BE THERE TO SHOW YOU CARE
Colston's Girls' School is the subject of a planning application submitted in May 2009. Supplementary documents have been posted in September which include felling the remaining black poplars, the very same trees which were saved by protesters in 1989. They omitted to mention this tree felling in their original exhibition leaflet too.
The application also includes felling the plane tree on t…

Montpelier –St Werburghs Beat March-April 09
CRIME UPDATE
The good news for February is that Dwelling Burglary was at its lowest point for several years, with only 3 reports for dwellings and 2 reports for shed break-ins. There has been a slight increase for March with 10 reports of dwelling burglary and 2 for shed break-ins, but this is still low.
Robberies have also remained very low with 3 for February and 3 for March with most being committed in the early hours of the morning. The dedicat…

The Bristol Evening Post is running a story on the St. Andrews Road dump
http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/homepage/Bristol-City-Council-land-dump/article-786018-detail/article.html
However, they have failed to pick-up on the broader themes of detritus that plague the area:
- Dog fouling
- Ripped-open rubbish bags a permanent feature of the streets
- Wheelie-bins crowding the p…

I was walking through park today, and discovered a wonderful assortment of books on the wall, picked up a Lemony Snicket audio cassette for the kids, and book of smuggling yarns, smashing!!!!
What a great idea!!! Montpelier Park Library!!! If we could install a weatherproof cupboard, I'll happily return the books
I 'borrowed' when I've read them.

Hi
It's been a while since you've heard for me or MAG - for various reasons, the main one being the focus on Mont Park over the last year. We are now making progress with our improvement proposals being assessed and costed by the Council, and about £90k has been initially identified as a budget towards works for the Park. If you didn't join the Park mail group a year or so ago, and want to know more about what is going on now, let me know and I will send you a copy of the proposals and put you i…

It is with great disappointment that we start the New Year with a small increase in burglary figures for the Montpelier and St Werburghs Beats. Last summer when we finally achieved a 50% reduction on the monthly Burglary figures which continued up to December 2008.
However the figures doubled during the month of December and we believe that two persons known to police were committing the majority of these. The good news is that to date one of these males has been caught and the other is keeping…

What does everyone think of the Tudor look? I think it's too kitsch to be true and really out of place. What is it saying? That we'd all rather be living in a quaint old village than good old 'vibrant and diverse' Monty? Hmmm....

It has been a good summer for the Neighbourhood Team and the residents of Montpelier and St werburghs as the crime figures for Beat 111 are a reflection of how crime is reducing across the board. The last two months have been very good seeing the overall crime reduce significantly.
When I became your beat manager back in October 2007 I set out to reduce serious and violent crime including Domestic Burglary and Robbery by at least 50%. The last few months the figures have suggested that we are f…

I recently submitted the following comments regarding proposals for the refurbishment of Montpelier Park.
The proposals are fine as far as they go, but have completely ignored the biodiversity issues which were raised in the original public meeting.
The interests of wildlife can be served within the existing proposals. I have recorded thirty-four species of bird using the park - I’m sure that this diversity can be sustained or improved if we take account of the natural assets of the par…

If anyone hasn't yet had a gander at the refurbished park behind Circomedia, Portland Square, go see.
It seems to have a good balance between concrete and grass, and lots of planting (albeit slightly more formal than I'd like) will keep us nature buffs happy once it is established. The park possesses plenty of standard trees and yet retains a pleasingly open aspect.
The park might serve as an inspiration for ideas about the development of our own Montpelier Park.

A new neighbourood watch group has been set up on York Road. This has been done in a slightly apologetic and nervous manner, as befits the pseudo/quasi-anarchic disposition of Montpelier.
However, it does boast the most absurd name of all NW groups: "Mork".
Members of Mork receive regular updates on crime patterns in the immediate vicinity of York Road, and other bits and pieces about crime/police in the area from time to time. None of the members own net curtains or notepads. We do however ex…

What the fuck is happening at the top of Station Road? Some petty bureaucrat at the council obviously thinks that if the grass grows higher than a millimetere it has to be cut.
As happened last year, a whole micro-habitat is being systematically destroyed in the name of 'tidiness' or 'crime prevention'. There's a brilliant, beautiful and rare plant, the Guelder Rose, which will no doubt be chopped down in the next day or two. Whole plant and animal communities are unable to thrive because of a…

There is shocking evidence that Montpelier Park is the victim of an infestation of split red lentils. Scientists say that split reds are more resistant to lentilocides than the closely related brown and green varieties. A local spokesman said 'this could only happen in Montpelier - it's like a scene from 101 Dal-mations'.

There are three Bristol Neighbourhood Watch Administrators, which are employed by the police; they look after the 800+ Neighbourhood Watch schemes across Bristol, which covers 28,000 member households.
Neighbourhood Watch is a community based organisation, and can operate in conjunction with Residents or Tenants Associations. It is set up and run by the community, funded by the community, for the benefit of the community, with help and support, from the police; but it is NOT police run.
The ai…

Just discovered a great tool for quickly informing the relevant authority about a problem in the local area. Go to
, type in your postcode, stick a pin in the map, upload a photo if you can, and quickly describe the problem. The data gets fed to the Council. It's great because it allows problems to be tracked and shared by the whole community. Give it a go!
