Celebrating and improving the best district in Bristol

Mel

Camper vans/White vans/Breakdown trucks/Double decker buses/Removal vans etc

I guess it's more of a gripe than anything else… but here goes anyway.
Falkland Road, Fairfield Road, Fairlawn Road, we're surrounded!

We're being taken over by people using this area as a car park. These vehicles are being dropped off at all hours of the night, then revving their engines first thing in the morning, taking over the pavements. One man even seems to be running his business here!

It's like living in a dumping zone. To have the joy of looking out of a living room window at the side of someone's lorry which is then parked there for days is a real treat.

The link to the PACT (police and community together) meetings is below - though next one isn't set - you can have your say via email anyway
I can't seem to do it as a hyperlink for some reason, you will have to cut and paste, sorry.

OK, I'm going to be a bit controversial, just get it out in the open - ultimately, I don't know where I stand on it. But,

Camper vans, VW vans etc - the 4x4s of the liberal middle classes - are not very nice to have parked on one's street or especially outside one's front window.

I've been through phases of really wanting one (even more so a pick-up) because they are so practical and useful.

But in the end I've shied away, in part because it is just another "high profile" lump of steel impacting on the aesthetic of the environment - either from a "landscape" point of view, or because it's not nice walking up the side of them on narrow pavements.

We all malign 4x4s, but I'm not sure that is that rational - my guess is there is many a 4x4 that is no less environmentally friendly than many a van, or my car for that matter.

It's all so very difficult isn't it?

Hi Heath, what are you quoting? I can't see that in the thread.

Agreed that we need to clean the place up!

Hi everyone - I've just signed up.

Yesterday I got home and noticed that someone had placed "MORAG" (Montpelier Residents Action Group) stickers on the two massive lorries permanently parked at the top of St Andrews Road. The stickers said "You're not welcome", referring to the lorries as "filthy eyesores".

The lorries have been there for two years or more and are never moved - but are occasionally visited by the woman who owns them.

Seeing the stickers gave me a real lift - as I wholly agree. I was wondering if anyone here knew who is/was responsible for them. If so, I'd like to get in touch and talk!

Best wishes.
Tim
